Planning for Teaching

When I was already in my 2nd weeks of training, I decided to ask to my mentor what kind of lesson plan used in the school. And she said that I can use any kind of a lesson plan, because we are in English/International program, and they decided to give teacher some space for the lesson plan, so that they can make it more flexible. Because of that, I make one that looks like Indonesian Lesson Plan. Because I need some material to create the teaching aims, I decided to search for the curriculum used.

Curriculum in Thailand school is “The Basic Education Core Curriculum” B.E. 2551 (A.D. 2008). And because I was in charge of basic science teacher, I opened the learning area of science (page 106). There, I know the aim of the studies is so that the students to linking knowledge with the processes, acquiring essential skills for investigation, building knowledge through investigative process, seeking knowledge and solving various problems. Then, because I am teaching about basic types of reactions and energy in chemical reactions, I focused on substances and properties of substances as well as energy.

Based on this guidebook, Thailand’s government want their students to understand components and properties of solutions; pure substances; transformation of substances through change of their state; solution forming and chemical reaction. With some foothold, I make the lesson plan. And then, I found out that the aims of the lesson specifically from the book is Understand how the energy involved in chemical reactions and Understand kinds of chemical reactions.

I processed all of them to make some simple to the point explanation, and when I ask the teachers about the student’s characteristics, they said that even though the students were smart kids, the motivation to learn is low. So, I expect to use experiment to my teaching and learning. But, I know that I’m just a pre service teacher, a guest, even though I can, laboratory experiments should have been planned for at least two months because of the chemicals and procedures. So that, I use media to show them the exact things that is happening in reaction.
