Purposes of practicum
There are two purposes in this practicum, first is to develop our teaching skills and pedagogy and scond as to gain broader regional and world view of teaching students. And to be ready, because we are ASEAN economy people now. As well as to become a world class teacher.
Procedures of practicum By the book All SEA teachers are given one month of practicum. The first week is the “observation week” where the SEA teacher will observe some classes to see the classroom settings and the strategy that the teachers used in teaching. Then, the second week is the “assisting week” wherein the SEA teacher is assigned to assist or help the teacher in teaching and also by this, the SEA teacher will know the strengths and weaknesses of the students that he/she will teach on the third week. On the third week, this will be the “teaching week” of the SEA teacher. He/she has to make a lesson plans and instructional materials that he/she will use in teaching and indeed teach the students.
Outcomes practicum This programis not just develop my teaching skills but also my personality and social interaction. As well as experiencing diverse work culture and how to cope with them and become a problem solver. Experiencing not just make your mentor and supervisor content but to deliver the real learning to the student in the most effective ways.
The challenge of practicum Language barrier Is one thing, luckily I was assigned to Chiang Mai, a beautiful city that many people can use basic English. Then, there’s lack of time to prepare, science is a continuous process of learning, and I need to pick up and not radically change the way of learning, so the students doesn.t experiencing the learning culture shocks.
Overall Impression I sincerely want to Thanks everyone who make this Practicum a really enjoyable experiences, mainly Mrs. Nurma my Supervisor in UNS, International Office UNS, Ms. Arry from CMRU, My Mentor Teacher Angie, My Supervisor Dr.Aom and as well teacher from Yupparaj mainly Teacher Sajan, Teacher Mario, Teacher Sam, and Teacher Ina as well as the people from SEAMEO to make this experience a really an unforgettable experiences. If I have time and have the skills, I would like to come back.
Suggestions for future improvement For SEAMEO, I think it's better if the practicum period is one month. Only the practicum, for observation and assisting maybe is given another time, or maybe been reduced. I think we need more to practice our teaching experience, because observation and assisting can be done in any class, but for the practicum can only be done in selected class. Aside from that i sincerely thanks SEAMEO for giving this opportunity
